ASSESSING THE BENEFITS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN REDUCING CRIME RATES

ABSTRACT: This study assessed the Benefits of Early Childhood Education in Reducing Crime Rates. The objectives of this study were to: (1) evaluate the role of early childhood education (ECE) in reducing crime rates in communities, (2) assess the impact of crime prevention education activities on children's understanding of law and order, and (3) determine the long-term benefits of crime prevention education on community safety. A survey design was justified for this research to gather comprehensive data from educators, parents, and community members about their experiences with crime prevention education in ECE settings. A sample size of 160 participants, including preschool teachers, parents, and community leaders, was selected using purposive sampling. The case study was conducted in early childhood education centers in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, known for their initiatives in crime prevention through education. Findings revealed that ECE programs significantly contributed to reducing crime rates by educating children about law and order and promoting positive social behaviors. It was recommended that early childhood education centers continue to prioritize crime prevention education and collaborate with law enforcement agencies and community organizations to create safer environments for children.
